Joe Pye Weed
In full to part sun Joe Pye has purple stems, dark leaves with pink flower heads on top. There are several varieties with a similar look but in various sizes. Standard Joe Pye is about 6′ tall! Butterflies love this plant.
Black-eyed Susan
What is not to love about this bright, golden yellow bloomer? They are often planted, but for good reasons – hardy, easy care and long blooming. The gold flowers with dark centers and large, dark green leaves bloom July into September.
Coneflowers
Not just pale purple and pink anymore! Coneflowers can be found in white, oranges, yellows, red and shades in between. These sun loving plants bloom for weeks in summer, make great cut flowers and are loved by birds, bees and butterflies too.
Sedum
In my book, sedum wins the easy-care prize. They are drought tolerant and most of the upright varieties are later bloomers that attract pollinators like crazy. Try varieties like Autumn Joy, Neon, Matrona or Purple Emperor blooming soon near you!
