Looking for more plants for your shade garden? Despite its name, Aralia ‘Sun King’ is a brilliant shade-loving perennial that is ready to compliment your hostas, heucheras, astilbe and other woodland favorites! This yellow to chartreuse-leaved plant, with reddish stems, grows about 3’x3′ and is out there looking like a shrub, but is actually considered a perennial! It is NOT drought tolerant and likes moist, well-draining soil. The Aralia will produce a small white flower in the summer, followed by inedible purple berries. It will die-back to the ground in the winter and then reemerge in the spring to form a shrub-like shape. Underplant Aralia with other perennials for a natural look that compliments this plant!
